Dalina Bădescu

Reconfiguring the Portrait in Another Code

Hastily appearing in the proper space of artistic creation, but bringing with her the non-conformist experiences of her positivist formation and art critic/historian, Dalina Bădescu (b.1990) has, since her first exhibition (EKG, National Museum of the Peasant Român, 2015), surpassed her conceptual and expressive horizon of the canonical painter.

Beyond rediscussing a genre, namely the portrait, and reconfiguring it into another code and convention of language, she shifted the emphasis from common morphology and outward description to probing the particularities of destiny and the kharmic uniqueness of the reason. This intensification of the gaze has come, surprisingly, not only with a deepening of the real, but with its extension beyond all tested limits of perception.
