The exhibition of the Faculty of Arts and Design, West University of Timisoara displays results of the artistic research of doctoral students in Visual Arts. The selected works reveal the diversity of approaches and the variety of artistic stakes and types of engagement of young artists with questions and problems from inside and outside the field of arts.

The emergent artists use the mediums and techniques of drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, and photography, but disciplinary boundaries are frequently questioned or crossed. Aspiring to convey a personal experience, to methodically explore certain formal elements and their relationship with the matter and the concept, or to engage people with ideas and dismantle prejudices, the artists bridge with ease mediums and techniques.

The playfulness and energy of the color allude to the glory of nature, hint to the freedom of the self, or evoke the volatility of personal identities. Through simple formal elements and seriality relations between the visual and the intangible are examined, while chaos is integrated to enhance the expressive qualities of the object. Ordinary materials are associated with social engagement and display the subtle power of the concept. Drawing and engraving create or remodel reality, sometimes with a critical lens and with irony, while fusing drawing and artificial intelligence raises interrogations regarding the status of the work of art.



The diversity of artistic ideas and ways to incorporate them is suggestive of the multiplicity of contemporary art forms. Behind them, a relentless exploration of relationships is to be found: between form and matter, two- and tree-dimensional, object and idea, real and imaginary, statement and suggestion, spontaneous and controlled, personal and universal.
