Francisc Chiuariu (B07)

Off-limits

”Off-limits” invites us to explore a space where physicality dissolves, challenging the human form to face an entirely new perception of reality. The characters explore the boundaries of the unknown, beyond the reach of human reason. Restricted access to a space of the unconscious both limits and contains. Capturing a gesture in a fraction of a second, Chiuariu paints a paradox, a portrayal of the passing of time, but stuck in time. Whether they are in motion or at rest, the people present in this pseudo-space, moved through touches of color, experience scenarios that, through their banality, are more than familiar to us. The contradiction between the simplicity of the gestures and the space that swallows them is stabilized by chromatic intervention. The series floods us with subtle colors, easily integrated by curved lines, stable geometries. There is a palpable sense of preservation here, an encounter with time that devours the character, but sweetened by these chromatic choices. However, fine but almost aggressive lines appear in most of the works, sometimes intact, other times still trapped in the matrix, trying to escape.

Francisc never hesitates to test the limits of his pictorial reality, and by extension our reality, standing in front of his works. The pseudo-space contained in the series is equally astonishing and unsettling. The dissolving figures urge us to contemplate our own mortality, the ephemerality of the physical. Ultimately, the experience is deeply personal, inviting each viewer to engage in their own exploration of the mysteries that lie beyond the veil of the physical world. But, through the chromatic spring with which Francisc greets us, entering the ”restricted area” is much easier. It seems to trick us in a way, but it is the kind of prank that makes it jovially easier for us to contemplate the unknown.
